Starting an Exam

An OSDx examination is performed by selecting the required test, positioning the device, acquiring the measurement and then saving the result.

How to start and complete a test

  1. Select a test. Click one of the test-selection buttons at the top of the main workspace window. OSDx tests are arranged in two groups: Ocular Surface and Additional Tests. If fewer than nine test options are visible, all tests may not be available in your version of OSDx.
  2. Position the device. Selecting a test starts the camera automatically. Position and focus the camera as required for that particular examination.
  3. Acquire the measurement. When the image is correctly positioned, click Acquire. The measurement is completed and the result is displayed in the appropriate area of the analysis pane on the right.
  4. Review the result. Once acquisition is complete, the camera is stopped automatically.
  5. Save the test. Click Save at the bottom-right of the window to store the acquired result.
  6. Retake if necessary. To reject the current result and perform the same test again, click Start. The Start button is not available while acquisition is in progress.
Best practice: OSDx keeps acquired tests in a session cache, so an unsaved test can usually be revisited later by selecting the same test, eye and, for meibography, the same lid. However, it is recommended that you save each satisfactory test before proceeding to another test, eye or lid.

Remember

The usual sequence is: Select test → Position → Acquire → Review → Save.

Individual help pages describe the correct positioning and acquisition method for each OSDx test.
