OSDx test

Meniscometry

OSDx measures the radius of curvature of the lower tear meniscus by reflectometry. The measurement gives a practical, non-invasive indication of tear volume and aqueous tear availability.

Clinical importance

The tear meniscus contains a substantial proportion of the tear volume on the ocular surface. A reduced meniscus supports aqueous-deficient dry eye, while a large meniscus may occur with reflex tearing or impaired tear drainage.

Meniscus measurements should be interpreted with symptoms, staining, blink findings and other tear-film tests.

Parameters reported by OSDx
